from Earth First! Newswire Fourteen antique horse carriages were destroyed by a fire this Friday, according to a report from NBC Chicago. Owners of the Noble Horse Theatre, where the carriages were torched, say that that this was an intentional act, and follows a history of “threatening letters from radical animal rights activists.”And it’s not the first time this has happened. In September 2012, six carriages were destroyed at the same location. This time, the words “Freedom” and what looks like “Free Slave Horses” were spray painted at the site. Photo credit: Michelle Relerford Four horses were in stables on the property, and were not injured. The carriages were worth between $7,000 and $15,000. The destruction of the carriages happened one year and one day after legislation was introduced to ban horse-drawn carriages in Chicago, and NBC commented that “the blaze is sparking new debate about whether horse carriages should be in the city at all.”
